During this academic year, Year 7 students will:

  • Work as part of focussed small groups to target key areas of weakness for Y7 learners – this will be identified through baseline assessments on entry and prior data
  • Participate in focussed days in key subject areas
  • Receive support from key workers, above standard staffing levels, to target key objectives
  • Access to Education City and Bug Club, with home access included, to support Literacy and Numeracy
  • Access to enrichment clubs to engage with key areas of learning – to ensure that learning is embedded and transferable

Report on expenditure:

  • Students have participated in focussed days in key subject areas for
    • the Queen’s birthday (communication focus)
    • Shape, Space and Measure focus day linked to Christmas and New Year celebrations – designing wrapping paper, paper chains, cards etc
    • ‘Seasons’ focus day to embed functional communication and numeracy (time)
  • Work as part of focussed small groups to targeting key learning outcomes – these are set by class teachers and undertaken by HLTA or LSP staff
  • Offsite visit to Drayton Manor to communicate with unfamiliar others and participate in money exchanges (numeracy). Use of positional language was also reinforced throughout the day
  • Education City and Bug Club were used successfully by learners both at school and at home
  • Speech and Language Therapy support was accessed by all Y7 learners during the Autumn term, enabling class teams to continue with this subsequently

Planned expenditure for 2016 / 2017:

  • For P1-P4 learners, we will continue to run our yoga communication project to enhance the communication skills and fine motor development – this is after the data had identified the learning benefits from this programme
  • For P4+ learners, literacy and numeracy catch-up small group work will be undertaken through using HLTAs to target key students and learning objectives
