At the Meadows School, Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education- including statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSHE)- is an essential part of our whole-school approach to developing confident, safe and independent learners. Our PSHE and RSHE curriculum is carefully adapted to the diverse needs of our learners providing them with the knowledge and skills to understand themselves, build healthy relationships, stay safe, and make informed choices.

We deliver our curriculum in a nurturing, accessible, age and stage- appropriate way, using visual supports, sensory activities, social stories and real-life experiences. Through a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, consent, self-advocacy and preparation for adulthood, our offer supports learners to grow in confidence and develop the life skills they need for now and the future.

Our curriculum prepares learners for life in modern Britain by fostering emotional literacy, empathy and the ability to manage change and challenges. Pupils learn how to communicate effectively, regulate their emotions and interact positively in a range of contexts — skills that contribute to their well-being, safety, and preparedness for future learning and employment.

Our approach promotes British Values, reinforces safeguarding, and reflects the UNCRC principles embedded through our Rights Respecting School ethos. We work closely with families and external professionals to ensure content is appropriate, sensitive, relevant, and differentiated across pathways to suit individual student needs.

Add RSHE long term planning

As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering strong partnerships between school and home, the Meadows school recently hosted a dedicated RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) information session for parents and carers. The session aimed to provide clarity around the statutory RSHE curriculum, outline how it is delivered within our school, and create an open space for questions, discussion and feedback. By engaging families in this important aspect of pupils’ personal development, we ensure transparency, build trust, and support a shared understanding of the values and knowledge we promote through our RSHE provision.
