PSHE & RHSE
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education- including statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSHE)
At The Meadows School, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) — including statutory RSHE (Relationships and Sex Education) — is a vital part of our whole-school approach to helping pupils become confident, safe, and independent learners.
Our Approach
- Curriculum carefully adapted to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Delivered in a nurturing, age-and stage-appropriate way.
- Methods include visual supports, sensory activities, social stories, and real-life experiences.
- Focus on emotional regulation, consent, self-advocacy, and preparation for adulthood.
What Pupils Learn
Through PSHE and RSHE, pupils develop:
- Knowledge and skills to understand themselves.
- Confidence in building healthy relationships.
- Strategies to stay safe and make informed choices.
- Emotional literacy, empathy, and resilience in managing change and challenges.
- Communication and regulation skills that support wellbeing, safety, and future opportunities.
Our Ethos
- Promotes British Values and embeds UNCRC principles through our Rights Respecting School ethos.
- Reinforces safeguarding across the curriculum.
- Works in close partnership with families and external professionals to ensure content is appropriate, sensitive, and relevant across pathways.
Working with Families
We believe in strong school–home partnerships. Last year, we hosted an RSHE parent and carer information session to:
- Provide clarity about statutory RSHE requirements.
- Explain how RSHE is delivered at The Meadows.
- Create an open space for questions, discussion, and feedback.
By engaging families in this way, we ensure transparency, build trust, and create a shared understanding of the values and knowledge we teach.
